What is the best brand for good men's jeans?

Celio, Uniqlo, Levi's and Nudie Jeans compared for good men's jeans: fits, leg lengths, prices, in-store pickup and in-store returns in France.

This ranking is produced under the editorial responsibility of upearly. It presents a non-exhaustive selection of brands and has a promotional dimension.

Choosing the best brand for good men's jeans starts with a fit that falls well and a leg length that avoids alterations. Price matters too, from under 30 euros to over 100 euros, as does how easy it is to try on, change size or return jeans ordered online. We compared four brands often cited for men's jeans, Celio, Uniqlo, Levi's and Nudie Jeans, on their French websites, on 2 November 2026, against eleven public criteria.

How to choose men's jeans

Fit first

The straight fit (straight or regular) falls vertically from thigh to ankle. It is the most versatile, the one you wear with a shirt at the office as with a t-shirt on Saturday. The slim fit follows the leg without squeezing it and suits slimmer frames. Loose, baggy and barrel fits have been back for several seasons: they give room along the whole leg and call for a more structured top to keep a clean silhouette. Our guide on how to wear jeans details the pairings that work with each fit.

Leg length, often forgotten

Jeans that are too long bunch on the shoe, jeans that are too short show the ankle. Inseam length is measured from the crotch to the bottom of the ankle, on a pair you already wear. This is where brands differ: Celio offers 16 jeans in four lengths, Levi's and Nudie Jeans list lengths in inches, and Uniqlo shortens the hem to the length you enter when ordering, free of charge. With white sneakers, aim for a hem that just grazes the shoe or a short cuff.

Fabric and care

100% cotton jeans hold their shape better and develop a patina over time, while jeans with 1 to 2% elastane are more comfortable day to day. Wash them rarely, inside out and at 30 °C. According to ADEME, the French ecological transition agency, it takes between 7,000 and 10,000 litres of water to produce a pair of jeans, and 90 million pairs are sold in France every year. Well-chosen jeans worn for a long time are therefore also the most useful choice.

Ranking methodology

The four brands were scored on eleven criteria, each verifiable on a public page of their French website, on 2 November 2026. The first three, assessed at brand level, are the same in every ranking on this site that includes Celio; the next eight relate to buying men's jeans: in-store services, returns, delivery, choice, leg length, entry price and repairs.

Scoring grid. Each criterion met is worth 1 point and is marked Yes. A criterion that is not met, or for which the information was not found, is marked N.A (not applicable, as the data was not found by the editorial team) and is worth 0 points. All criteria carry the same weight, 1/11 of the overall score each (about 9%). The position follows from the overall score. In the event of a tie, the brand that benefits from a sponsored highlight, flagged in the article, goes ahead alone, at its own rank, and is never ranked as tied. Among the other brands, the one with the most points on criteria 4 to 11 goes ahead, then alphabetical order; two brands with the same overall score and the same points on criteria 4 to 11 share the same rank.

Practical tips before you buy

Measure the inseam of a pair of jeans that already fits you, and compare it with the brand's size guide. Try them on in store if possible: free pickup and in-store returns let you change size without shipping costs. Check the composition on the product page: a little elastane for comfort, 100% cotton for jeans that develop a patina. Finally, think about the tops and colours that will go with them: our guide on how to match colours in an outfit helps you build outfits around raw or mid-blue denim, and our guide on how to choose a sweater completes your winter outfit.

How our rankings are established

Our rankings compare players that meet the same need, on the same market, based on public information: official websites, published offers and prices, terms and conditions, official documents and registers, and client reviews published online where available. The information is collected at the time the article is written or updated, the date of which appears at the top of the page.

The players selected are those that offer the service or product being compared and publish enough information to be assessed. Our rankings do not claim to be exhaustive. Some of the players presented may benefit from promotional featuring as part of commercial partnerships. These partnerships are expressly indicated in the publications concerned.

Each player is assessed against the same criteria: the scope of the offer and how well it matches the need, the verifiable characteristics of the service or product, price and terms where published, the support provided, the transparency of the information provided and, where they exist, client reviews published on third-party platforms. Each criterion is scored on the basis of information published by the player itself or by its clients, and the position in the ranking follows from the overall score obtained. When the editorial team could not find the information needed to score a criterion, it is marked N.A (not applicable, as the data was not found by the editorial team) and scores no points. A summary table presents the main criteria used and the assessment results for each company.
